Channel 5 and The Discovery Chanel Program ‘Classic Car Rescue’

Channel 5 and The Discovery Channel are producing a new TV series called ‘Classic Car Rescue’. One of the cars we are going to feature on the show is a classic Porsche 911. We’re currently trying to track down a privately owned 911 from the 1960’s or 1970’s in need of restoration work (it doesn’t have to be a complete basket case rebuild). If you have an old 911 or know of someone that has one sitting in a garage or barn please do get in touch with us.

We are looking to actually buy the car from the owner, and we are open to negotiate on price if we can find the right car. Please contact Stuart using the detail below:

Porsche makes its ‘marque’ at Race Retro Sale

Porsche is Race Retro’s chosen marque for 2012 so it’s only fitting that Silverstone Auctions has some superb examples from the German car manufacturer up for auction at the event.

Those feeling the need for speed couldn’t do much better a 1976 Porsche 934 ‘Jagermeister’ race car, an exact recreation of the original which was one of the most famous and evocative cars to compete in that season’s Le Mans and European GT Championship.

This particular model is finished bright orange with a very distinctive livery in the colours of a famous German drink. A two year build project was completed in 2011 when the car made an outstanding debut win at Oulton Park.

The car has been estimated at between £55,000 to £65,000, but for that it will be welcomed at many events worldwide, including the Classic Endurance Racing Series, Classic Le Mans, Masters events, the Silverstone Classic and all European GT Series.

Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “You simply have to look at this car to see the quality of the build and the attention to detail. This is an opportunity not to be missed to own such an exquisite model.”

Meanwhile, heralding from a time when Porsche had a rich vein of motorsport successes is a 1973 Porsche Carrera RSR Replica, estimated at between £50,000 to £60,000. The car is correctly based on a 1973 911 shell and the interior has all the correct instrumentation, lightweight carpets and race seats.

Nick added: “A small fortune has been recently spent on this car to produce a Carrera RSR that drives as it should. Because of its correct build specification, obtaining FIA Group 4 papers would be very possible.”

Porsche Owners Club

Switching from the race track to the rally stage comes a Porsche 911 2.0 Tuthill Rally Car, also estimated at between £50,000 to £60,000. This 1965 model was prepared originally in 1999 by Richard Tuthill himself, part of the father and son team at Tuthill Porsche, the long established and much respected Midlands Porsche rally specialists.

Richard also drove the car himself, scoring a number of remarkable victories. The car was eventually sold to a privateer before the current vendor took ownership and completely stripped and rebuilt the vehicle.

Just a few years older is a 1961 Porsche 356 B Super Historic Road Rally Car, estimated at between £25,000 to £29,000. The car is prepared for Historic Road Rallying and successfully completed the 1999 Monte Carlo Rally Historique. Since then it has been maintained regardless of cost, including an engine rebuild.

The Race Retro and Classic Car Sale takes place at the Race Retro International Historic Motorsport Show, Europe’s premier historic racing event, which is held from the 24th to 26th February at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire.

Viewing of the lots at Race Retro is all day on the Friday (24th) and until lunchtime on the Saturday (25th), when bidding commences. Also under the hammer will be classic and race cars, motorcycles and automobilia.

Anyone interested in attending the sale will be required to purchase an auction catalogue.

2012 Porsche Cayman R Test Drive & Car Review

The 2012 Porsche Cayman R was one of the most-anticipated cars to ever come through the Roadfly office. The car’s stats are simply stunning: 0-60mph in 4.7 sec. 330hp @ 7500rpm, 2855 lb. Even the door handles have been replaced Online Dating with nylon tabs to reduce weight.

The results are predictable. The Cayman R is virtually telepathic, to the point that it nearly bores you. It’s so free of vice that you start to feel that it’s just like a normal, civilized car, with a tad more immediacy…and you wonder what the big deal is. Only when you go back to your daily driver do you realize how responsive the Cayman actually is.

It’s a nearly perfect machine. It makes few compromises that interfere with spirited driving, but still manages to be completely docile, tractable, and even practical with its two trunks and stellar reliability. It also gets great fuel mileage, at 19 city and 27 highway when equipped with the 6-speed manual.

Ever gone to a movie that didn’t blow you away at first, but weeks later you’re still thinking about it and can’t get it out of your head? That’s what my days with the Cayman R left me with. This car is definitely on my ‘short list’ of cars I want to own before I die. It’s slightly expensive with a starting MSRP of $66,300, but given how well-built Porsches are in general and how good their resale values are, the price is fair in my opinion.

Porsche reveals hybrid, hydration and horsepower at 2011 Autosport International show

- 911 GT3 R Hybrid makes UK debut at Autosport International, January 13 – 16 2011
- Porsche Carrera Cup GB revs up for new season with all-new 911 GT3 Cup race car
- Specialist consultants from the Porsche Human Performance Centre at Silverstone to conduct customized hydration tests during the Show

Porsche will showcase its ground-breaking 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car, preview its British motorsport programme for 2011 with the new 911 GT3 Cup car and demonstrate the breadth of its Human Performance sports science consultancy with body hydration tests at the Autosport International show at the Birmingham NEC (January 13 – 16).

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid

Developed as a spearhead for the technology and a ‘racing laboratory’, the stunning Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid made its race debut in the VLN Championship on the Nurburgring in Germany in 2010 and has subsequently raced with success at Road Atlanta in America and at Zuhai in China, gathering further data about the performance and durability of its alternative energy resource with every lap.

Making its UK debut at the Autosport International show, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid is a perfect example of Porsche Intelligent Performance. The car features an electrical front axle drive with two electric motors each developing 60 kW, which supplements the familiar 480 hp (353 kW) 4.0-litre flat-six ‘boxer’ petrol engine at the rear. It features an electric flywheel power generator that is charged-up whenever the driver applies the brakes. This flywheel is mounted inside the cockpit beside the driver, and delivers its energy to the electric motors on the front axle. The driver is able to call upon this extra energy from the charged flywheel generator at his command for competitive advantage, such as when accelerating out of a bend or overtaking.

Depending on racing conditions, hybrid drive is used in this case not only for extra power, but also to save fuel. This again increases efficiency and, accordingly, the performance of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, by reducing the weight of the fuel tank or making pit stops less frequent, for example.

New 911 GT3 Cup on the grid for 2011 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship

The Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship steps up a gear in 2011, with a new car based for the first time on the 911 GT3 RS and powered by an identical 450 hp, flat-six 3.8-litre engine and distinctive wider rear bodywork. The Porsche Carrera Cup GB goes into the new season in the best possible shape, with a capacity entry of 32 cars. This has increased from the 28 of 2010, with 32 being the highest number that can be accommodated at all the circuits visited, as part of the support to the British Touring Car Championship.

This new-for-2011 911 GT3 Cup race car will be on display on the Porsche stand at Autosport International and demonstrate the Porsche ‘track to road philosophy’1, with an example of the road-going 911 GT3 RS joining the display.

Porsche Human Performance Centre at Silverstone

The Porsche Human Performance Centre offers a number of services bespoke to a sports science laboratory. Whether analyzing an athlete’s performance in hot weather conditions using the dedicated heat chamber at the Silverstone facility, or testing peripheral vision and reaction times with top of the range equipment, the expert staff at the Centre can tailor their consultations to suit the wellness of all clients.

As a part of this, the team will demonstrate the ‘sweat composition check’ service to visitors to Autosport International on January 13 – 14. For £49, drivers looking to find out exactly what they are made of, can book this check that provides an overview of specific body hydration levels.

Andy Blow, Director of the Human Performance Centre, commented; “As most drivers know, dehydration reduces your endurance, slows your reactions, causes cramping and negatively affects your performance. This is just as important in everyday life, as remaining properly hydrated is proven to aid concentration and general well being for anyone.”
